GANI MUST GO : called for the resignation of Attorney General

Pro-government groups have called for the resignation of Attorney General Tan Sri Abdul Gani Patail, saying he is unqualified to be the top lawyer in the country and had failed in his duties.
Mind and Social Care Malaysia president Ramesh Rao said there were so many issues plaguing Malaysia and its people, but Gani has been lax in carrying out his duties and responsibilities as the AG.
"Street demonstrations, Islam being questioned as the official religion of the country and insulted, Malaysia's sovereignty disputed, rampant allegations on social media.

"The country's leaders being insulted, criminals getting off easily, failure to cooperate with the police," Ramesh said while listing some of Gani's failures.
He questioned why these incidents were occurring, asking if it was because the laws in Malaysia were full of loopholes or if Abdul Gani was too lax.
"It is not as if Gani is unaware of the various accusations and allegations being circulated on social media," he added.
Ramesh said Gani had not been doing his job since 2008, and because of that, Malaysia had become chaotic.
"Gani's failure to perform efficiently and effectively has resulted in various incidents occurring which are threatening Malaysia's stability."

"If opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim became prime minister, Gani would be gone in an instant," Ramesh said at a press conference in Putrajaya today.
Also present were members of Martabat Jalinan Muhibbah Malaysia (MJMM) and former DAP member Tony Tan.
They handed a memorandum calling for Gani’s resignation to a representative of the AG's Chambers in Putrajaya.
"Gani does not know how concerned and worried the rakyat are about the crime rate in Malaysia," MJMM chairman Abdul Rani Kulup Abdullah said.

"Nobody will rob Gani because he is always escorted by his bodyguards. But what about ordinary Malaysians?
"When crime victims go to the police to inquire about the status of their case, more often than not, they are told it is with the AG's Chambers."
Rani said it was time for Gani to hand over the job to someone who was more capable and efficient.
Ramesh also questioned the need for the appointment of Umno lawyerTan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah to represent Putrajaya in the Sodomy II appeal case.

"What about all the lawyers in the Attorney General's Chambers? Is there such a lack of capable lawyers in the government that an outsider needs to be brought in?"
Ramesh said a copy of the memorandum will also be submitted to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong
